Eddie Kingston knows there will be live shots when he faces Sammy Guevara at AEW Rampage: Grand Slam.
Kingston has been feuding with Guevara for several weeks. They were initially building toward a match at AEW All Out, but this bout was nixed when they reportedly got into a confrontation backstage where Kingston “pie-faced” Guevara. However, they later reportedly met backstage and agreed to move foreyard. As a result, the two foes will finally battle at Grand Slam in New York.
Speaking on The Fight Fan with Pete Hoffman, “The Mad King” was asked about facing Guevara, given their reported confrontation and Kingston’s subsequent suspension. He responded by emphasizing that he was wrong because he put his hands on Guevara. However, he noted that once they step into the ring, Guevara won’t be able to charge him with anything. Kingston also made it clear that he knows Guevara will try to “test” him, and he expects there to be live shots when they clash in the squared circle.
“I’m not gonna go too inside baseball, you know what I mean,” Kingston said. “All I know is, I was wrong because I acted very unprofessionally. I touched another man’s face, and you know what man, it is what it is. It’s assault. So I was wrong. But now, I got him in New York, and now he can’t charge me with anything. You see what I’m saying? People can sit there and say whatever they want. But once you gotta go out in the ring, and again, people can say whatever they want, but there will be live rounds, I know there will be.
“I know he’s gonna try to test me because he feels like he has to, to look good in the locker room. Because he doesn’t look good now, I can tell you that much. Then I’m just gonna rock him back, and we’re gonna see who’s gonna who’s gonna stand tall. I have no problem going at it. Would I like to wrestle him and go hold-for-hold and all that? Yeah, but nine out of ten times, they put me against guys I really don’t like. So I’m not gonna go hold for hold for you. I’m gonna try to pop your ear drum. I’m gonna bite you, I’m gonna gouge your nose. Pete, you’ve seen me do this. You’ve seen me fight kids, like in real life, so that’s what I do.”
