Karrion Kross Reflects On His Second NXT Title Run, Calls It A ‘Dress Rehearsal’ For Future World Title Reign

Karrion Kross reflects on his second NXT Championship reign and states that it was one of the best times of his career.

Kross first captured the title at NXT TakeOver XXX in 2020, but he was forced to relinquish the gold due to an injury he suffered in the match. After his recovery, he returned and eventually regained the championship at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in 2021.

Speaking on El Brunch de WWE, Kross looked back on this second reign. He noted that it was “very good” and it prepared him for his future with the company.

“It was very good,” Kross said. “That’s the type of title reign that some people will never, ever see in their entire careers, and for me to be able to achieve that so early upon my arrival in WWE, I’ll never forget it. It was one of the best times of my career. It prepared me mentally for everything that happened in the future. I felt very, very prepared moving forward with what sort of expectation was gonna be needed of me, and the accountability of being a champion.

“I kind of thought of being champion of NXT as every single day you show up to work, this is going to be a dress rehearsal for one day becoming WWE Champion. That’s the way I always looked at it.”

WWE released Kross in a wave of cuts in November 2021, but he returned to the company on August 5, 2022. He has been featured on WWE SmackDown ever since.
