Latest License Update For The WWE 2K Franchise, Battlegrounds’ Future

The partnership between WWE and 2K seemingly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

While many predicted that the future of the franchise was in danger following the critically panned release of WWE 2K20, 2K rebounded nicely with WWE 2K22 and saw great sales and reviews for this year’s game.

According to Mike Straw of Sports Gamers Online, any talks between WWE and EA fizzled out after the release of WWE 2K22 as the company was “thrilled” about the sales and response to this year’s game.

Earlier this year, a picture was taken at WWE headquarters with Stephanie McMahon and several members of the 2K team. This led people to believe that the two parties did some kind of contract extension, but this wasn’t the case.

The fact of the matter is that 2K still has a few years left on their contract with WWE, so an extension isn’t necessary at this time. However, both sides expect that to happen in the future.

While WWE 2K23 is currently in development, Straw reports that the WWE Battlegrounds franchise is pretty much done, and no sequel is expected.
