The first team has advanced in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, with Dakota Kai and IYO SKY moving on in the tournament.
Previously, WWE stripped Naomi and Sasha Banks of the titles after they walked out of the May 16 episode of RAW. The commapany announced that new champions would be crowned in a tournament, but the start date wasn’t announced until the August 5 episode of SmackDown. There, the broadcast team confirmed that the competition would begin on the following episode of RAW.
Making her in-ring debut on RAW, Kai and her teammate Sky — both of whom returned to the world of WWE at WWE SummerSlam alongside Bayley— were able to come out with a major victory while “The Role Model” watched on at ringside. Things came to a close when Kai landed a huge running boot on Tamina, allowing Sky to hit the Over the Moonsault for the win.
Now, the duo will move on in the tournament, and face off against the winners of Alexa Bliss & Asuka and Nikki A.S.H. & Doudrop.
For a breakdown of how the match ended, check out below courtesy of our live, play-by-play coverage:
Brooke lands a hip toss followed by a boot. Brooke kicks out. Tamina tags in and levels Kai with a big elbow strike. Tamina knocks Sky off the apron. Suplex by Tamina. Kai and Sky confer outside the ring. Brooke surprises them with a dive. After the break, Sky and Kai are taking turns working over Brooke. Brooke manages to tag in Tamina. Tamina clears the ring. Sky and Tamina trade strikes.
Brooke tries a cartwheel attack outside the ring. Bayley pulls Kai out of the way so Brooke lands on the barricade. Tamina tries a splash but Sky gets her knees up. Tamina blocks it, but Kai comes sailing in with a scorpion kick. Kai lands a running boot in the corner. Sky hits the Over the Moonsault for the win.
