Dakota Kai and Io Shirai made shocking appearances at WWE SummerSlam.
After Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch in the opening match at WWE SummerSlam, Bayley returned to confront the RAW Women’s Champion. “The Role Model” had been sidelined due to a torn ACL in July 2021. Within moments, Dakota Kai returned to the company to align with Bayley. The duo then became a trio when Io Shirai, who was referred to as Io Sky, also appeared.
The shocking segment ended with Bayley, Kai, and Shirai face-to-face with both Belair and Lynch before the trio retreated.
Dakota Kai was released from WWE NXT in April but had not appeared elsewhere in the three months since. Io Shirai’s WWE contract was rumored to be up soon as she had not appeared on NXT 2.0 since WrestleMania weekend.

In a notification WWE sent fans, the company referred to Shirai as IYO SKY; her name is spelled this way on WWE’s website.
