Damian Priest On Facing Rey Mysterio At Madison Square Garden: It Was ‘Mind-Blowing’

For Damian Priest, working with Rey Mysterio during the celebration of his 20th anniversary with WWE was a special experience.

Priest battled the legend in a tag team match on the July 25 episode of WWE RAW, which was held in Madison Square Garden. Though Priest and his Judgment Day partner lost the bout against Rey and Dominik Mysterio, the former WWE United States Champion appreciated the opportunity to share the ring with the veteran.

In an interview with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc. ahead of WWE SummerSlam, Priest described how the way Rey has represented Latino culture has been very important, and he noted that facing him in Madison Square Garden was “mind-blowing.”

“For a Latino from New York, seeing Rey all these years representing our culture, it was important,” said Priest. “And one of the main things that I get told all the time by our Latino fanbase is, ‘Thanks for representing.’ I don’t know if that’s happening without a Rey. What he’s done for the Latin community, the Hispanic people, it’s just incredible. So for me, every honor that I have and doing anything for our community and our heritage, it’s crazy.

“So being that it’s 20 years in WWE, Madison Square Garden, where I grew up, seeing so many events, and again with Rey and obviously he’s coming towards the later years of his career, future Hall of Famer, now SummerSlam, talk about the timing to get to work with him. So being that it was MSG, it’s mind-blowing. Yeah, we came up short in the match, but I had a really good time during his celebration.”

Priest and Balor will aim to get some revenge when they battle Rey and Dominik in a No Disqualification Match at WWE SummerSlam.
