AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest Week 1 Results (7/13/22): Tag Title Match, Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita

AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator: Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita

Moxley and Takeshita lock up and feel each other out. They trade shoulder blocks. The champion takes Takeshita to the mat. The two men trade blows, and Moxley floors his opponent with a clothesline. “The Purveyor of Violence” gets a two count with a piledriver. He grounds Takeshita, but the latter rallies and drops him with a German suplex on the apron. Moxley drills Takeshita with a boot to the head. Moxley punches Takeshita outside of the ring, busts him open, and licks the blood. The champion hits a superplex and stomps Takeshita. The Japanese star rallies with a leaping clothesline. Takeshita drops Moxley with a brainbuster. Moxley gets his knees up on a frog splash attempt. He locks in a cross arm-breaker, but Takeshita reaches the ropes. After a hurricanrana, Takeshita dives onto Moxley of the ring. He hits a frog splash for a two count.

The two competitors trade blows. Takeshita reverses a sleeper into a blue thunder bomb. Moxley hits the Paradigm Shift. Takeshita counters the Death Rider and hits a German suplex for a near fall. Moxley hits the Death Rider, elbows Takeshita and makes Takeshita tap out to the Bulldog Choke.

Winner: Jon Moxley

Julia Black says Dabry Allin is not free of the consequences of his choices. Malakai Black says venom is agonizing once it’s in your system. Brody King tells Allin that he didn’t need his praise, and he’s getting his by taking what’s Allin’s.

In-Ring Segment: Christian Cage with Luchasaurus

Cage targets the Varsity Blonds in his message by insulting Brian Pillman Jr.’s mullet. He says Brian had a father, but his father was a legend in this business, at least according to other people. Cage says Pillman was average at best, but he respects the blood and sweat he sacrified. He says Pillman would be appalled if he knew his final contribution to the business was his son. Cage says Griff Garrison looks like Jungle Boy, which fires up Luchasaurus.

Luchasaurus (with Christian Cage) vs. Griff Garrison (with Brian Pillman Jr.)

Garrison takes the fight to Luchasaurus, but the big man overpowers him. He drops Garrison with a German suplex and plants him with a chokeslam. Cage tells him to do it again, and he does before he makes Garrison tap out to the Snare Trap.

Winner: Luchasaurus

Cage tells Luchasaurus to attack Garrison again, and that’s exactly what he does. Pillman Jr. gets in Luchasaurus’ face, and the big man slams Garrison onto Pillman, who was laid out on a table, twice.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone asks 2point0 and Daniel Garcia about being suspended in a shark cage for Jericho’s match next week. Matt Menard says he wants Claudio Castagnoli and Kingston’s other allies in a cage. Daniel Garcia says Wheeler Yuta has been doing his best Daniel Garcia impression for months. He says Yuta took his identity, so at Death Before Dishonor, he’ll take the Pure Championship.

A video package confirms that AEW All Out will be held in Chicago on September 4.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Hangman Page. John Silver and Alex Reynolds say they’re upset after Brody King eliminated Hangman in the Royal Page. Silver challenges the “spooky perverts” in the House of Black to a match on AEW Rampage.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Jake Hager

Castagnoli immediately drills Hager with a European uppercut and goes for a Neutralizer, but Hager reverses. Hager floors Claudio with a lariat. He goes for an ankle lock, and Claudio reverses. He hits a tiger feint kick for a two count. Claudio nails Hager with some uppercuts and strikes. Hager returns the favor, and they keep exchanging blows. Claudio hits a bulldog for a two count. He slams Hager’s head into the turnbuckle several times. Hager trips him up on the top rope and slams him to the mat. He throws Claudio and hits the Hager Bomb for a two count. Hager takes control and drills Claudio with some jabs. Claudio rallies, but Hager slams him again. The Swiss star hits a deadlift suplex. Hager nails him with a big boot. Claudio hits a springboard uppercut, and both men are down. The former tag team partners trade punches. Claudio uppercuts Hager and sends him to the outside.

A diving crossbody earns Claudio a two count. Claudio swings Hager and locks in a Scorpion Death Loc. The Jericho Appreciation Society runs to ringside, and Hager capitalizes by slamming Claudio for a two count. Claudio suplexes Hager, and Angelo Parker distracts him. The Swiss star hits a pop-up uppercut and hits the Ricola Bomb for the win.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli

Backstage, HOOK doesn’t say anything during an interview.

The show plays a video package of Thunder Rosa’s match with Miyu Yamashita.

Backstage, Thunder Rosa discusses her return to Japan and says Yamashita will get a shot at the gold. Rosa and Toni Storm say they’re ready to take on anyone. Britt Baker, accompanied by Jamie Hayter, interrupts and says this place is a natural disaster without her. She and Hayter say that they know thunderstorms can be very damaging, but they’re equipped to deal with them. Rebel hands Tony Schiavone a bag, but its contents are unclear.

Serena Deeb vs. Anna Jay

Deeb and Jay lock up and feel each other out. They exchange counters. Jay gains the upper hand, but Deeb rolls through and locks in a submission hold. Jay gets out of it and goes for the QueenSlayer. Deeb snaps Jay over the ropes and hits a twisting neckbreaker. The two women fight around ringside. Deeb grounds Jay and drops her with a neckbreaker through the ropes. The veteran continues to control the action, and she hits a backstabber. Jay fires up with a flurry. She gets a two count with a suplex. Deeb spins Jay around, but Jay counters a piledriver. “The Professor of Professional Wrestling” wrenches Jay’s arms. Deeb hits a dragon screw, but Jay locks in the QueenSlayer. Deeb escapes and makes Jay tap out to the Serenity Lock.

Winner: Serena Deeb

Deeb kicks the hold in after the bell until Mercedes Martinez makes the save.

Backstage, Jade Cargill is standing by with The Baddies. She tells Leila Grey to fetch her some water. Stokely Hathaway tells Cargill to trust him and says that they’ll be watching Kris Statlander’s match with Athena on Rampage. Kiera Hogan tells Grey that she’ll never be a Baddie.

Tay Conti confronts Anna Jay, her former friend, and says she needs to make better choices if she wants to get on TV more.

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (Mat and Nick Jackson) (c) (with Brandon Cutler) vs. Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee vs. Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs

Lee and Matt Jackson start the bout. Matt evades Lee’s strikes and tags Nick. Swerve also tags in, and they match each other step for step with flips and dropkicks. They’re evenly matched, but Nick takes control with an arm drag. Starks tags in, and both he and Nick go for arm drags on the ropes, but they get crotched. Nick suplexes Starks three times and dishes one out to Swerve, too. Lee tags back in, and he double suplexes Matt with Hobbs. Lee overpowers Starks and Nick. Swerve and Lee double-team Matt. Starks tags himself in and double-teams Swerve with Hobbs. The Team Taz duo gains the upper hand. Starks isolates Swerve as he maintains the advantage. Hobbs and Starks continue to dominate Swerve. The Young Bucks tag in and continue to control the match.

Swerve dropkicks the Bucks and gains some breathing room. Lee tags in and clears house with a series of splashes in the corner. He throws Starks into the Bucks. Lee catches a diving Matt and slams him into Nick. Hobbs tags in and squares off with Lee. Both men are down after a double crossbody. Hobbs hits a frog splash for a two count. Nick tags in, and Starks hits an assisted cutter while Nick is on Hobbs’ shoulders. Bodies are flying, and the Young Bucks superkick everyone. Hobbs accidentally trucks over the referee in the corner. Matt tries to use the title as a weapon, but Starks stops him, Swerve grabs the title and teases using it on Lee, but he drops it. Matt hits him below the belt and blasts Swerve with the title for a two count. The Bucks hit the BTE Trigger on Swerve, but Starks breaks up the pin. Swerve and Lee hit the powerbomb/diving stomp, but Hobbs breaks up the pin. Hobbs dishes out spinebusters to everyone. Starks rolls up Swerve for a two count. Starks floors Swerve with a Spear. Lee hits the Bucks with one of their shoes and dumps Hobbs onto the floor. Swerve dives onto the Bucks and Hobbs at ringside. Lee pounces Starks and dives onto everyone. Swerve hits the Swerve Stomp for the win.
