New Japan Pro-Wrestling has announced the details for the qualifying matches that will determine who advances to the All-Atlantic Championship Match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
On the June 8 episode of AEW Dynamite, the company announced the looming debut of the new title and kicked off a tournament where eight men will compete for the gold. After the first round of qualifying matches, four stars will fight for the title at Forbidden Door. The tournament began with a qualifying bout on Wednesday; PAC defeated Buddy Matthews in a singles match.
In an update, NJPW has announced how it will determine its portion of the bracket; at the New Japan Road show on June 20, Tomohiro Ishii will face Yoshinobu Kanemaru, and Tomoaki Honma will battle Clark Connors. The winners of these bouts will collide at the June 21 event, where the victor will punch their ticket to Forbidden Door. Ishii is no stranger to AEW programming; he debuted on the November 17 episode of AEW Dynamite in a tag team match where he teamed up with Orange Cassidy to face The Butcher and The Blade. He later faced Adam Cole in a qualifying match for the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament on the April 22 episode of AEW Rampage.
