Dan Ryckert: I Wasn’t Allowed To Do What WWE Hired Me To Do

Dan Ryckert looks back on his time with WWE.

Ryckert worked on The New Day’s podcast, and he spent the last two and a half years with WWE. In the aftermath of his exit from the company, he has opened up on his experience.

On a recent Twitch stream, Ryckert made it clear that he worked with a great team, but he wasn’t given the ability to do what the company hired him for. He also mentioned that he piloted an Attitude Era rewatch podcast, which would have featured Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Stokely Hathaway (the former Malcom Bivens), and Dakota Kai.

“I did have a lot of good experiences at WWE and to be fair, the team that I worked with, everyone that I worked with, was excellent,” said Ryckert. “We had a podcast team there. We’re all there trying to do our best; make stuff. We weren’t allowed to do stuff, piloted a bunch of stuff that never saw light of day. Lot of great stuff. Worked with a RJ City quite a bit. He was amazing. I wouldn’t have normally said this because I don’t wanna say things I worked on that didn’t come to light, but Johnny Gargano already said it on his Twitch stream so I’ll say piloted an Attitude Era podcast with Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Dakota Kai, and Stokely Hathaway, formerly Malcolm Bivens, and it was f—— great. It was really, really good. We did a super fun episode of an Attitude Era rewatch podcast with those four incredibly talented individuals, who are also not there anymore. But it was great. It was just incredible and that’s just one little taste of the type of things I was piloting and making and never got green-lit. And that’s all yo say that the people around me, my boss, trust me, it was a revolving door at that place. I survived a lot of mass layoffs there. My bosses were great. The people, my producers and audio editors and video guys, everyone was awesome to work with. The problems were way up there.

“So it all, the lack of, again, I’m not gonna be sour grapes or anything, but I didn’t really get to do anything there, except The New Day. The New Day were excellent, I loved working with those guys, they are incredible. All three of those guys are the absolute best and I keep in touch with them. Love those dudes. But yeah I talked about it on the podcast a little today, I wasn’t allowed to do the thing that they hired me to do. So that’s why you saw me here on this channel and you saw me doing all these things on the side to keep myself sane because I wasn’t getting that at the day job. Now I’m back at Giant Bomb and now I get to do video games and I get to create stuff and actually put it out at Giant Bomb.”
