Jamie Hayter is thankful she had a real behind-the-scenes ally in Britt Baker.
In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Jamie Hayter spoke about how AEW connection began. Hayter took on a more prominent role in the last year, but she worked two matches for the company in 2019 before COVID put things on hold.
“When I was out there in Japan, Bea [Priestley] was signed at the time, she was living out there. I had kind of kept in contract with Britt [Baker] when we had a match in 2019 – everything seemed to happen in 2019! Everything got put in the pot there and accumulated later on. Me and Britt wrestled at Pro Wrestling EVE. We had a really fun match, we got on really well and she was like ‘would you ever be interested in coming to America?’ And I was like ‘Absolutely! But I’m going to Japan, so maybe after?’
“We kept in contact, we messaged back and forth. I went to AEW twice in 2019 and then after that time AEW got me a VISA under the thing of like ‘we’re definitely going to work together and do things in the future’ and I was like ‘Wow, this is very exciting. I get to do Japan, wrestle for AEW – this is the dream!’ And then COVID happened. As every single story seems to go! COVID happened and I went back home and was on the dole for a year-and-a-half, two years – which sucked.
Hayter said that things all worked out in the end, joking about an anecdote from her mom about falling in sh-t and coming up roses. Hayter said having Baker there in AEW to guide her has been a huge blessing, noting that she’s thankful the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament winner believed in her.
“I’m really thankful for that and thankful she helped me get to this point. She always saw the potential in me. She always told me I’m really good and she wanted me to be here from the get-go,” Hayter said. “I appreciate that and I’m always going to be thankful to her for believing in me and wanting me by her side. When someone wants you next to them like that, that’s very reassuring to yourself.”
