William Regal: Blackpool Combat Club Aims To Help Wheeler Yuta Grow, Everyone Stands To Gain From Wrestling Us

It’s not just a gimmick; William Regal, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley want to help Wheeler Yuta grow.

The four men currently comprise the Blackpool Combat Club, a group that began when Regal helped bring “The American Dragon” and “The Purveyor of Violence” together. They later added Yuta into the mix when he earned their respect. Since then, the reigning ROH Pure Champion has continued to shine and blossom under the trio’s guidance. Given AEW’s number of young wrestlers who could similarly benefit from this mentorship, it’s easy to imagine the group recruiting rising stars like Lee Moriarty.

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Regal explained that the mission to lift Yuta up by showing him different styles of wrestling. His run in the Super Juniors tournament will likely compliment this training, but the BCC doesn’t just want to boost him; the group aims to help anyone they step into the ring with.

“With Wheeler, we’re dead-set on making him the best professional wrestler he can be,” said Regal. “With all these influences and different styles that we’ve all picked up from wherever we’ve found them, I’m just as open to learning everything as they are. He’s in Japan now and in daily contact with one of us about something. That’s what’s making this become what it is.

“Not only Wheeler, but everyone who gets to wrestle the BCC. That’s another thing: You watch every talent, every young talent that gets to wrestle any of them, they’re getting better. How I got here was getting to wrestle better people. I’m blown away with Wheeler, and Daniel Garcia as well.”

Regal went on to note that the stable can’t just add every “wrestler” to the group, as it’s important to ensure that the members get to face people with diverse in-ring styles. He noted that the faction doesn’t want to spread itself or its goal too thin before he pointed out that expanding the stable could take away from Yuta. That being said, he emphasized how anyone who steps into the ring with the BCC stands to gain from the experience.

“…There’s three of us and we want to help Wheeler,” said Regal. “We don’t think we know everything, we’re trying to get better and that’s part of being a competitor. Let’s concentrate on Wheeler first.

“Every second you spend with someone else takes time off Wheeler. We’ll concentrate on him and anybody who wrestles the BCC, it gets passed down to them whether they know it or not, normally through a good kick in. If they’re smart, they’ll go back and watch the tape. The knock on effect will help a lot of people rather than just putting everyone in our group. I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and say ‘I’d love to be a part of that’ and I know all of us have.”

Danielson and Moxley will compete in the Anarchy in the Arena Match at AEW Double or Nothing.
