FTR Compares The Young Bucks Ducking Them To Isiah Thomas’ Feud With Michael Jordan

All Elite Wrestling has some of the best tag teams in the world, including FTR and The Young Bucks.

The two duos memorably clashed at AEW Full Gear 2020, but fans had to wait until April 2022 to see the rematch. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood didn’t get a shot at The Young Bucks’ titles when they reigned supreme as the AEW World Tag Team Championship for several months, but they finally got a chance to challenge for the gold once the Lucha Brothers dethroned them.

During an interview with Brandon Walker of Barstool Rasslin’, FTR compared the way the Young Bucks avoided facing them to the feud between Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan. Harwood noted that facing Jordan, a player that many consider to be the greatest of all time, prompted Thomas to play dirty. But he drew a clear contrast by pointing out that the Bucks aren’t as tough as Thomas, so when they finally clashed in the ring, FTR aimed to show them up.

“When Isiah Thomas met Michael Jordan, he knew he wasn’t a better player than Michael Jordan so he tried to be a dirty bastard,” said Harwood. :Isiah Thomas as a prick. These guys aren’t tough enough to be Isiah Thomas. So instead of undercutting us in the physical form, they undercut us from behind the scenes. And they decided, god dang, if we get in the ring with them, people are gonna understand they are better than us.

“But we like to think and we like for people to think we’re the best tag team in the world. But if we get in with them, they’re gonna compare us and it’s gonna be, ‘Oh my god, apples and oranges.’ And f—, we know apples are way better than oranges.”

Cash then noted that they were first in line for a title shot after the Young Bucks lost the gold, though Matt and Nick Jackson never defended the titles against them.

“If we don’t want to flat-out say they ran from us for a year or whatever it was, just hypothetically, if we don’t, is it any coincidence that the Lucha Brothers beat them and the very first team they defended the titles against is FTR,” he asked. “Like for a year, we don’t get a tag title match and then as soon as the Young Bucks lost the tag titles, we’re the first in line. How does that work?”

FTR remains focused on regaining the championships; now that the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament is over, it’s clear that the gold is the team’s top priority, as Harwood indicated in a tweet.

Harwood and Wheeler currently hold the tag team titles in AAA and ROH, and they were attacked by Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan during the May 25 episode of AEW Dynamite. Moving forward, it seems like the duo has a new problem on their hands with the United Empire representatives.
