When Michael Cole announced that Sasha Banks and Naomi had been suspended indefinitely, Pat McAfee was just as surprised as many fans were.
The two women walked out of the May 16 episode of WWE RAW, reportedly due to creative frustrations, and according to WWE’s official statement, they left their Women’s Tag Team Championships on John Laurinaitis’ desk. During the broadcast, commentator Corey Graves called the duo’s behavior unprofessional.
Cole shared the news about the suspension during the May 20 episode of WWE SmackDown. Many viewers noticed that McAfee, Cole’s partner on commentary, looked caught off guard by the announcement.
During the May 23 episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the former NFL punter discussed the situation and explained that he hadn’t heard about the suspension before Cole’s statement on SmackDown. He made it clear that he doesn’t know what’s gong on, and he doesn’t know what to believe. McAfee also expressed his hope that there will be a resolution soon.
“The Sasha and Naomi thing, that was my first time hearing what Cole was saying live there,” said McAfee. “I had no idea what to think there. I have no clue. This is a very fascinating thing. [Sasha’s a] superstar talent. They were out champions. What happened? I honestly have no idea what to believe in this whole thing. They keep me out of the loop with everything.
“I have no f—— idea while Cole is doing his thing. I was very fascinated. What is going on right now? I have no idea. I wish I had more answers for people. A couple people asked me what’s going on, it’s like f—, I feel like you know more than I do. Really as that was happening I was oh goddamn. Suspended indefinitely? We need [a resolution].”
