William Regal thinks Claudio Castagnoli, formerly known as Cesaro, is a very appealing free agent, both for his in-ring skills and his overall professionalism.
Cesaro left WWE in February when his contract expired, and he has been on the open market ever since. While he has returned to Twitch, he hasn’t wrestled in a match since his departure from WWE. Throughout his time with the company, “The Swiss Superman” was widely viewed as one of the most talented wrestlers on the roster.
During an appearance on The Sessions of Renee Paquette, Regal, who worked with Cesaro for several years in WWE, spoke highly of him when Paquette asked him what the former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion should do. Regal stated that he is “incredible” and praised him for what he brings to the table. He also stated that if a company failed to use him correctly, that could be a sign of a problem.
“I’ve only put my cards on four people where I’ve gone and said look, I can’t tell you if they’re gonna draw you any money, but they are incredible at what they do,” said Regal. “They are professional. They will always be there, they will represent the company well. Everything that you could want out of a person, and two of them was Bryan [Danielson], and Claudio was the second. So that’s how much I think of him. And I just think that he needs to do whatever he feels is right for his family. If my words mean anything.
“Again it’s not about what you think is right or wrong. If nothing else, to have the stabilizing influence of a 100% professional person who everybody can look up to and watch and learn from, and learn everything you could possibly want to be as a professional. Dresses like a star. As a human being, speaks five languages perfectly. Can represent your company anywhere. That’s before we even get into the ring. If you’re not using him, if you can’t find…if you don’t think that he’s…then maybe there’s something wrong somewhere.”
Regal also made it clear that if it was up to him, he would free up some payroll by getting rid of some members of the roster in order to acquire Cesaro because he’s that valuable.
“If I had any clout anywhere as far as that much stuff, I would sacrifice some of the money from that roster to get rid of people, that may sound horrible, to get him,” said Regal. “That is how much he would bring to any locker room.”
WWE released Regal in January, and he went on to join AEW; he debuted at the Revolution pay-per-view in March. Since then, he has been featured on AEW programming as a member of Blackpool Combat Club.
