Tony Khan has appeared on AEW television, but he only aims to do it for specific reasons. The AEW President joined Swerve Strickland on his “Swerve City” podcast and he talked about walking out in front of fans before the TV tapings of AEW Rampage and Dynamite.
“I started doing it because like I didn’t want any of you guys to blow your pops and I was like, ‘Well, I can go out and get everybody up,’ cause there was a couple times where like we just started and we just shot the fireworks off and everybody had been sitting for like ten minutes waiting for the show to start,” Khan said, who was asked about if it was a new challenge for him.
“It’s different for sure, it’s a totally different experience but it’s the best. I just love it. I hate to use the term, but in this case, it’s a good term. It’s the ‘mark magic.’ It’s the term Britt [Baker] taught me which is a great expression that the Doctor, her coach used, for like I think the people who love wrestling and have been around it whenever you’re in a position to do something if you really grew up, the little pieces, you just do little things right. You watch wrestling, you don’t have to be taught to do some things and some things come naturally. That being said, I have no intention of going out and taking up any of the TV time.”
“That’s where I was going to go to next,” Swerve said. “Where is the ‘Tony Khan persona’ going to pop up?”
“It’s not, it’s not,” Tony said before noting of the previous times he appeared on television which was during the Brodie Lee memorial, the ROH announcement and th Forbidden Door announcement.
“Generally when I say that, I haven’t gone out and made them though,” Khan stated of name wrestlers appearing in the past like Swerve, Jeff Hardy and Toni Storm.
Swerve’s co-host “Monteasy” Jones adds that “big announcements” is what makes the stars and people feel like a big deal and Swerve stated that the “big announcements” are a good thing for AEW.
