Jonathan Gresham Wins PROGRESS World Championship

Jonathan Gresham is the new PROGRESS World Champion.

At PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 130, Gresham defeated the defending champion, Cara Noir in a Title vs. Title Match to win the gold. Gresham entered the bout as the defending Ring of Honor Original World Champion.  The win came with some controversy, as Spike Trivet blasted Noir with a steel chair at the end of the bout. Gresham was unaware of the interference, but he still capitalized and defeated Noir.

With the victory, Gresham became the first wrestler who wasn’t born in the United Kingdom or Europe to hold the gold.

“The Octopus” previously won the ROH World Championship by defeating Jay Lethal at ROH Final Battle: End of an Era. During ROH’s hiatus, he has been competing all over the world; he recently won the wXw 16 Carat Gold Tournament.
