As members of the WWE RAW roster, The Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) often compete against some of the top stars in WWE today. Sharing the ring with renowned superstars pushes them to bring their best each and every time they perform. Plus, working with veterans continues to be a priceless experience. But Ford and Dawkins aren’t just learning from stars of today; the duo can lean on any number of legendary performers from the past.
In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Dawkins and Ford described how some all-time greats have helped them along the way. Both men specifically highlighted WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. Dawkins recalled the first time he met the former world champion at a signing shortly after he broke into the business.
“So Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker, but I got to shout out Booker T, man,” said Dawkins. “He was one of the first legends that I met when I first started. We, at FCW at the time, we had a show in Florida and Booker T was there for a signing and stuff.
“I remember going up to him and asking for advice because I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I had played sports in college, but this was completely new and an entirely different thing for me to learn.”
As for Booker T’s input, Dawkins described how the former King of the Ring winner helped him gain a whole new perspective about the wrestling business and stated that he has used this approach ever since.
“The advice he gave me I pretty much adapted that this whole time since 2012,” said Dawkins. “He basically detoxed any and everything I thought I had learned about wrestling before I got to FCW.”
Ford elaborated by noting that Booker T has helped the team out from the start. He explained that the legend has held them accountable and offered feedback dating back to their NXT days.
“And Book been there since day one, man,” said Ford. “Even when we used to work the NXT road loops, he’d come through, watch our matches and everything. We really appreciate him, man. He’s one of the guys that’s always been there and made sure we’re on our ps and qs and if we’re not doing what we’re supposed to be doing, if we weren’t performing at a level, he would let us know.”
Learning from respected veterans has already paid off, as The Street Profits have won the tag titles on RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. Moving forward, the duo is once again chasing the gold on the red brand.
