Jake Atlas was hoping to deliver an impressive performance in his debut on AEW TV. But unfortunately, an apparent injury hindered his ability to do so.
Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Atlas seemingly suffered a knee injury during his match with Adam Cole at the AEW Ramage taping on January 7. He landed awkwardly when Cole hit him with a superkick during a springboard maneuver. Atlas quickly grabbed at his knee, and he struggled to put weight on it. Johnson’s report notes that the competitors tried to go for the Panama Sunrise spot, but the injury forced them to call an audible, as Cole instead locked in a kneebar and made Atlas tap out.
AEW officials helped Atlas to the back, and it’s currently unclear how serious the injury is. Atlas signed with AEW earlier this week on January 4; he won his in-ring debut on AEW Dark by beating Serpentico.
In a brief update, Johnson noted that Atlas “blew out his knee”, but the severity of the injury remains unclear.
Atlas’ injury came shortly after AEW star Rey Fenix also clearly hurt his arm in the main event of AEW Dynamite.
WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
