Marina Shafir On The Rumored MMA vs. WWE Horsewomen Feud: It’s Very Endearing To Know It’s Still Talked About

Marina Shafir recently spoke with WrestleZone about her WWE release and starting a new chapter in professional wrestling. Shafir said she was down for a bit after finding out the unfortunate news in June, and explained how she took ownership of the situation and got back in the right mindset to move on and move forward with her career.

“My ego took a shot, my ego was the first thing like ‘damn Marina, they’re f-cking with you’, so what the f-ck are you going to do now? You just got to look at yourself in the mirror, you got a kid, you got a husband, you got a dog and they all got to eat, so what the f-ck are you going to do now? And that’s what I was asking myself for the entire 30-days that I had. It got to the point where I couldn’t ask myself anymore, I just had to put myself in rooms and in spaces where people were just doing sh-t. I needed to start doing sh-t. I started to teach Judo, I started training like a motherf-cker again, I started to make myself available for people who wanted my help.

“I helped my friend get ready for a fight, I helped another friend get ready for a fight, I just wanted to be involved in a situation where I was still pushing myself and I was still in a place where people were also trying to learn something about themselves. My husband has been doing this for so f-cking long, he’s now training smarter so he can perform harder. The mentality with us has been so crazy because we’re finally lined up with each other in the sense that [when it comes to] how we operate and just honestly lining ourselves up for being able to make some decisions… physically demanding decisions because we still got it in us, and it’s like, ‘Oh we still got it in us? Let’s control it as long as we can.”

One thing that didn’t happen in WWE was the oft-rumored “MMA horsewomen vs. WWE horsewomen” feud. Asked if that was ever as big as fans speculated it was, Shafir said that it speaks volumes that fans (and certain wrestlers) are still talking about the potential for that angle.

“All I’m going to say about that is, what hasn’t happened yet, is still an opportunity,” Shafir said. “I love and I find very endearing how that’s still a subject of conversation, very much so. Because what it tells me, is that my friends, who I’ve actually gone into battle with, did enough to set something in motion that they didn’t need to talk about anymore. Like I said, sh-t that hasn’t happened yet, there’s still an opportunity for that sh-t to happen… and that’s all I’m going to say.”
