There’s a mutual respect despite the heated rivalry between Matt Cardona and Nick Gage.
New GCW World Champion Matt Cardona recently appeared on Sirius XM’s Busted Open Radio and admitted that while their rivalry has been nothing short of violent, he holds a certain level of respect for the MDK leader.
“This deathmatch style is not for me, it’s not my style at all,” said Cardona. “I’m not a fan of it at all, but I respect that there are people who like it. Who am I to say what’s right and wrong in wrestling? I can’t say that.
“I always had some sort of respect for Nick. I mean, the guy almost died and wanted to keep going in one of his deathmatches. But after being in the ring with him and seeing the punishment that he takes, not only the punishment that he takes in the ring, but the love that the fans have for him and he has back. My entrance was wild because people wanted to kill me. His entrance was wild because the people loved him and wanted to touch him, it was something I’ve never experienced before. You would have thought they were trying to kill him, but they just wanted to bring their chief to the ring…. I respect the hell out of him. He’s one tough SOB.”
Gage will be in action on Wednesday night, as he’ll face Chris Jericho in what’s sure to be a wild No Rules Match on AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen.
