Mickie James continues to make waves with her plans for NWA Empowerrr, and now we know the event will see a new team reign as NWA Women’s Tag Team Champions.
James made the announcement on Instagram on Friday morning, posting the following statement:
Tickets for @nwa #Empowerrr #nwa73 & 2 days of #Powerrr taping live from the Historic @chaseparkplaza in STL go on sale TODAY 5pm central @ticketmaster !!! I promise they’re not gonna last. Also HUGE decision and Announcement from Billy & myself. We are bringing back the NWA Women’s Tag Team Championships. The winner will be Crowned at EMPowerrr. I’m scouring for the top teams and I know we ALL can’t wait to see the championships brought back to their former glory. Thank you everyone for tuning in.
The original NWA Women’s Tag Team Championship was defended starting in the early 1950s and was deactivated in 1983. The final champions were Princess Victoria and Velvet McIntyre, who would move on to become the WWF’s first-ever Women’s Tag Team Champions after the WWF withdrew from the NWA later that year.
James also confirmed some of the names that would be on the card on Thursday afternoon, revealing Kylie Rae and Jennacide would be in competition. She also noted that any woman on the current NWA roster will be involved in the event if they “truly want to be a part of this Historic event in STL.”
Earlier this week, James also confirmed the creation of the NWA Women’s Invitational Tournament, which will be an annual event that will be hosted on NWA Anniversary weekend each year.
