Tony Deppen: I Couldn’t Be Any Happier In Violence Unlimited, I’m Excited To Work With An ‘OG’ Like Homicide

This weekend on Ring of Honor Wrestling, fans will get their first chance to see Violence Unlimited compete in the ring.

The company’s newest stable debuted at the end of the ROH 19th Anniversary pay-per-view, and many fans have been excited to see Homicide, Chris Dickinson, Tony Deppen and Brody King officially join forces. The group’s first match will see the team of Dickinson, Homicide and King face La Faccion Ingobernable in a buzzworthy contest. (WrestleZone will have full coverage of this episode of ROH Wrestling on Monday night while it airs on FITE TV.)

Before the match aired, Deppen shared his thoughts on the formation of Violence Unlimited in an interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. Deppen explained how his relationship with Dickinson has changed drastically, as the two men didn’t exactly get off on the right foot.

“I love that [this opportunity] is working with Chris,” said Deppen. “Chris used to hate me with a passion, he did not like me one bit. And that was prior to me ever meeting him. Like I remember the one time, it was for ‘Mania week down in New Orleans…, and I was in the crowd and [Joey] Janela took the microphone, he was saying some stuff. And he mentioned my name, and Dickinson grabbed the microphone and was like, ‘I’ll never wrestle you, Tony, you’re trash.’ Right in front of everybody. He just buried me and my wife’s like, ‘Are you okay, are you pissed?’ And I was like, ‘It’s whatever, f—- him.'”

Deppen then explained that Dickinson quickly apologized, and since then, the two men have grown to respect each other through their shared love of wrestling and desire to improve.

“I saw him in Canada like two weeks later and he came up to me and apologized,” said Deppen. “He was like, ‘I never should have said that. And then he wrestled me once at GCW, and then he just slowly got more and more respect for me, and then he sees my attitude, where he knows where I’m at, he knows I’m at PWG, he knows I’m with Ring of Honor. But when he talks to me, he knows that I’m always like, I just want to be a better wrestler, like I’m not where I want to be. And Chris has a lot of respect for people that are not afraid to call out their own bull—-.

“So getting to work with Chris is gonna be great because him and I are not afraid to say stuff to each other about like,’ Hey, maybe you should do this,’ and he’s like, ‘Well maybe you should do this.’ And it’s great that we can bounce ideas off each other because that’s when wrestling’s the most fun to me.”

As for the formation of Ring of Honor’s violent faction, Deppen expressed his excitement about working with a living legend in Homicide and a ROH World Championship contender in King. He also stated that he’s already enjoying his time with the group because all four members get along very well.

“We’re just having so much fun with the things that we’re doing, and we’re just bouncing off each other’s energy and stuff like that,” said Deppen. “And not once did we ever go like, ‘Ugh, this is a chore.’ It was a breeze to do stuff with them, and I’m looking forward to, I get to work with Homicide. I’ve been watching independent wrestling for almost 20 years now, so I get to work with an OG of independent wrestling and Ring of Honor. I get to work with a current superstar in Ring of Honor that was on the verge of the Ring of Honor World Title. And I get to work with Chris Dickinson. So I couldn’t be any happier about the group I’m in right now.” .
