Steve Austin Reveals How Chris Jericho’s ‘Broken Skull Sessions’ Appearance Came Together

Steve Austin gives the bottom line on how he booked Chris Jericho as his next guest on ‘Broken Skull Sessions’.

Austin spoke with Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso and said Chris Jericho was booked for his show after Jericho reached out and Austin extended an invitation. As he explained it, Austin says Jericho reached out to him after his interview with The Undertaker and praised the show, and that got the ball rolling.

“We got to talking. I’ve always respected the hell out of his career, and I’m glad they’re around—it gives the guys and girls in professional wrestling more places to work. I said, ‘I’d love to have you on the show.’ And he said he’d love to do it,” Austin explained, “so I checked with Vince about it.”

Austin says he double-checked with Vince McMahon about it, even after getting an initial approval from him.

“I texted Vince and said we had this badass idea about Jericho coming on the show,” Austin said. “Vince goes, ‘It’s cool. Go ahead.’ But me and Vince don’t always do well with phones and texts and all that, so I texted one more time, ‘Are you sure it’s OK to have Chris Jericho on the show?’ Vince gave me the thumbs up, and Chris came out to do the show.”

Sports Illustrated also noted that AEW President Tony Khan approved the appearance, with Austin adding that the interview was important to him because of Jericho’s influence on the wrestling business and no topic was off-limits.

“We go into everything,” Austin says. “Jericho is one of the all-time greats, and it’s going to be cool to have someone from AEW on a WWE show. To bottom line it, I’m excited for people to watch this show.”
