Anthony Bowens didn’t appear on AEW Dynamite this week and it turns out he’s dealing with a knee injury.
Bowens usually accompanies Max Caster to the ring as The Acclaimed, but ‘Platinum Max’ was flying solo last night for his Face Of The Revolution ladder match qualifier against 10 of The Dark Order. Tony Khan has provided an update on Bowens’ status, confirming he is currently out with a knee injury. Khan did not provide any more details about the severity of the injury or when Bowens will return.
“Max Caster, in the match we just saw last night on Dynamite, looked fantastic against 10. Anthony Bowens is out with a knee injury and Max Caster has looked really good as a singles competitor,” Khan said. “He was a singles wrestler before The Acclaimed came here separately and got teamed up. They’ve been a smash hit, a success. Critically Acclaimed.”
Bowens’ last match was on February 4, a tag team match pitting The Acclaimed against MJF and Chris Jericho.
As Khan noted, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster had been singles wrestlers prior to AEW. The duo told WrestleZone earlier this year how Khan pitched them on the idea of being a tag team in the first place, with neither one knew they were in Jacksonville for the same meeting.
“I had come down to Jacksonville to meet with Tony [Khan] and I had gotten on the elevator and Max got on the elevator as well, and I was like, ‘Oh what are you doing here?’ And he was like, ‘I’m going to meet with Tony.’ And I was like, ‘I’m here to meet with Tony.’ And then come to find out that we were having the same meeting together,” Bowens explained, “and we met with Tony, he said, ‘I know you guys kind of know each other from the indies. I have this idea for you guys, it’s called The Acclaimed. I’ve always wanted to make a tag team this, and I think that you two would be the perfect people for it.’ And then a couple hours later, we found ourselves wrestling Best Friends and it was kind of thrown [together] like we didn’t know what we were doing.”
