At WWE NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, four women hoped to make history.
The winner of a tag team match between Dakota Kai & Raquel González and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon would go down in history as the victor of the inaugural Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
González overpowered her opponents early on, but Blackheart rallied when Kai tagged in. Moon and Blackheart double-teamed Kai to take control of the match. Moon and Blackheart continued to isolate Kai and target her leg. Eventually, Kai managed to tag González, and she used her impressive strength to gain the upper hand.

Later, González slammed Blackheart against the barricade, and Moon was left to fend for herself. The numbers game was too much for her, but she gained some breathing room with a flurry of offense. She hit the Eclipse on González, but a distraction from Kai allowed González to kick out. Blackheart reentered the match with a rally of her own. She dove onto Kai outside the ring, but González kicked out after a series of maneuvers.
Both teams kept breaking up potential pinfalls. González threw Moon onto the ramp, and she then launched her off the stage. In the end, Kai and González pinned Blackheart for the win to earn a future shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
