Enzo Amore recently sat down to talk with SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, where he discussed Ring of Honor’s G1 Supercard, and how he believes the company dropped the ball when it came to moving things further.
“How do you keep a secret in pro wrestling between three people? You’ve got to kill two of them,” Amore said. “The fact that that was pulled off on a McMahon-level of secrecy, the fact that people around you couldn’t realize, ‘Holy s—! You just trended No. 1 in the world, over March Madness, over Brett Hart, over the WWE Hall of Fame, over the G1 itself, over everything happening that night. Enzo and Cass reuniting. No. 1 trend in the world.’”
Amore went on to describe more of the night, and said that the fact that the crowd knew who he was was proof that things could’ve been big. “We walk in and they’re chanting, ‘F— you, Enzo.’ Ok? You couldn’t have asked for this thing to go better,” he said. “I have never wrestled in front of a New Japan or Ring of Honor crowd in my life. Now, if you think that they should inherently know who I am, because I’m in the WWE, why don’t you take anyone in the WWE and plug them in that spot? There’s only a few people that are going to pull that off for a reaction in general. Let alone, you know, ‘F— you, Enzo.’ It was the best s— I’ve ever done in my career!”
When asked why he thinks the appearance didn’t work or evolve into more, Amore explained that he believes his reputation may have played a part. “I just think that why it didn’t work at that time is because there’s a 10% boisterous audience and marks on Twitter that light it up, that tag people in things. They get people scared because they type and say the wrong thing, or tag this person or, ‘He’s got these issues, and backstage, he ain’t a good guy.’”
