Following Charlotte Flair’s victory over Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 36 for the NXT Women’s Championship, NXT held a six-woman ladder match to determine who Flair’s next opponent would be. In a brutal match that saw Io Shirai, Tegan Nox, Chelsea Green, Dakota Kai, Mia Yim, and Candice LeRae all step into the ring for a shot, it was Shirai who was able to come away with the win.

Things were heated from the start, but Shirai was able to overcome the other five competitors and lock in her shot at Flair. Towards the end of the match, Shirai shoved LeRae off the top of the ladder, which caused her to bounce off a ladder that was wedged into the top rope. From there, Shirai was the only one in the ring, and was able to pull the briefcase down and set herself up as the new No. 1 Contender.

Stone tells Green to climb the ladder. Green hobbles into the ring but she can’t stand. Stone climbs the ladder to help Green get to the top. LeRae and Shirai push the ladder over. Stone and Green both hit the top rope on the way down. LeRae and Shirai fight to the top of the ladder. Shirai pushes LeRae off the top of the ladder. LeRae lands on a ladder that is laying on the middle rope. Shirai pulls down the briefcase for the win.
