Goldberg has a lot to prove tomorrow night in Saudi Arabia against The Fiend and states as such with Byron Saxton. Goldberg says that he may not be the age of “Da Man” that speared through the competition in the late 90s, but age is just a number to him and he’s ready to show that at Super ShowDown.
“The reality is that I’m just honored and privileged to be a part and still be a force. I truly believe that age is just a number and I’m here to kind of prove that. I was lucky enough to dominate a generation of wrestlers and I’m lucky enough to still be here and taste what it’s like to get in the ring with a new generation and I don’t take them lightly by any stretch of the imagination, but I hope they understand what I’ve been through and you can’t just through that out the window even though I’m 53 years old. It’s a lot of experience and there’s still a lot of anger in me and if my body cooperates then I find no issues with me going out and performing to the level somewhat of what I used to.”
Bill makes note that he’s only had three weeks to prepare for his match against in comparison to his last two runs with WWE that allowed him eight weeks and six weeks, but that number also isn’t phasing him.
“I wish I had a little bit more time, but I’m gonna prove tomorrow night that three and a half weeks was enough and if I can bring a portion of what I can bring to the ring I think it’s going to be enough and I’m not taking him lightly by any stretch of the imagination.”
The Fiend is indeed different competition for Goldberg and the former WWE Universal Champion knows as much, but he’s learned throughout the years that your success can matter much more based on the mental rather than physical.
“I’ve never been against anybody like him before. I’m here to stand my ground, I’m here to prove a point, and I’m here to show that no matter what age, no matter what level of fitness you’re in, if you got it in your mind and you have the drive and the ability to get up every morning and train three times a day and eat 10-15,000 calories and put your mind to something, I think that means a lot.”
Goldberg closes out his conversation by addressing his previous match in Saudi Arabia and cites that as a key motivator for him in returning to the country.
“I’m lucky I get another chance. My first Saudi Arabia stint here was less than favorable in a lot of ways and it put me in a place that I’ve never been before and I think part of my reasoning for coming back is to kind wipe that out but I’m taking everything out on The Fiend tomorrow night, and hopefully it’s enough.”
