This week on MLW Fusion, Davey Boy Smith Jr. takes on Simon Gotch. Davey says Simon has a big mouth and he thinks it’s a mouth that should be fish-hooked. Davey wants the CONTRA member to “pick his execution!”
No ropes, no rules, winner by submission or knockout.
MATCH 1
No Holds Barred Fight
Simon Gotch vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.
If there ever was a Bulldog’s determination to an individual, Davey certainly has it tonight as he squares off against the veteran CONTRA member.
Davey is the initial aggressor as he downs Gotch to the canvas, but Simon forces him out of the ropeless ring. Davey leaps right back up and lock up again. The feeling out process continues until Davey rolls Gotch down. As expected, ery aware of the ground game is DB.
Two get to a vertical base and Davey wrenches the wrist. Simon soon wraps DB in a headscissors hold but Davey kips up to escape.
Davey eventually grounds Gotch again and does a little targeted ground ‘n pound.
This sparks both to do a little strong style to one another and Gotch begins using his legs to topple the big Bulldog down.
Gotch tries to lock the ankle but DB reverses. Samael pulls the leg of Simon over the side to try and force hold break, but the ref doesn’t relent.
Simon gets what looks to be a near submission on DB, with a leg lock, but he powers out and delivers four (count ’em four!) massive belly-to-back suplexes. The ref calls for the bell. It’s a knockout win for DB!
WINNER: Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Alex Hammerstone reveals that he’s got a little bit of a sponsorship deal from his successful run in Japan (10,000 Yen, baby!) and it so happens to be a soda drink in which Medina, Holliday and Hammer all partake in. The Most Marketable one is going to get His Lawyer *Slash” His Father to promote the hell out of it and get it on American shelves.
We catch footage of a crimson-covered Mance Warner after his No Ropes Barbed Wire bloodbath against Jimmy Havoc. Mancer states that his time with Jimmy is done, but his time at the pay window and with some light beers isn’t. He’s also adding one more goal on his to-do list: MLW gold, baby. Even with one eye, he can see gold around his waist and he’s looking National Openweight Champ’s Alexander Hammerstone’s way.
We catch the premeire of Tom Lawlor’s “Filthy Does Dallas” starring Lawlor (as himself) and Dominic Garrini (also as himself).
The two hit downtown Dallas, specifically WIld Bill’s western shop to get some boots and hats, unlike those Von Erichs (according to Lawlor).
MATCH 2
MLW World Middleweight Championship
Myron Reed vs. Drago
Jordan Oliver “accidentally” calls Dallas “Houston,” but it really doesn’t matter. Actually, none of the cities of Texas and Oklahoma matter to them, what really matters is “Hot Fire” Myron Reed. Oliver tries to get chants going, but it’s to no avail and Drago’s entrance puts a stop to that.
Myron intensely stares on as he looks across the ring from Drago. The bell rings and we’re underway. Crowd is fully behind Drago. Myron’s main focus soon turns to the crowd, Drago goes for the clothesline, but Myron ducks and kips up to celebrate his awareness.
Drago finally gets the advantage and comes splashing off the second rope, but Reed’s chest protector saves him. Drago feels the brunt of it as Injustice members try to distract him. Reed shows his innovation with a springboard lung blower in the corner.
Myron locks in the dragon sleeper on Drago, (“giving something him cute to think about” states AJ Kirsch on commentary)
Reed’s cockiness gets the best of him as Drago throws him to the outside, Oliver and Brazil catch the champ for safety, but Drago makes all three pay with a swan dive over the top rope.
Two powerbombs by Drago prompt Oliver and Kotto to get involved but he disposes of both him. No reason for a DQ as there wasn’t any offense done by either. That’s not for long though. Behind the ref’s back, Kotto hits a low blow on Drago in the corner, allowing Myron to hit his “No Cap Splash” for the pinfall, but before administered, the ref only counts two which certainly fires “Hot Fire” up after the final three. He shoves the ref and you better believe this isn’t something that Injustice is going to let stand.
WINNER and STILL MLW World Middleweight Champion: Myron Reed
Alicia Atout is standing by with Low Ki. She credits him as being “The Knockout King of MLW” and as he details to why that is the case, in comes King Mo with Dan Lambert. The two begin to joke about who the true Knockout King is and Low Ki doesn’t look at all pleased.
It was announced last week that Jacob Fatu will be defending the MLW World Heavyweight Title against Brian Pillman Jr next week on Fusion, but as this bout was being promoted the feed cuts and we get word that Air Wolf was attacked by mysterious CONTRA members call the Sentai Death Squad. His upcoming match has been cancelled and it certainly has to be unsettling to the MLW locker room that CONTRA is growing in numbers. We actually get an update later that states the entire locker room is indeed “on watch.”
MAIN EVENT
MJF vs. Marshall Von Erich
MJF isn’t alone for his singles match against Marshall as he’s flanked by Hammerstone and Medina. MJF gets on the mic and doesn’t have positive things to say about Dallas or The Von Erichs. He’s got some cutting words about defeating Marshall but that tone mightily changes when Marshall walks out in lone wolf mode (his brother Ross is actually in Israel promoting MLW’s presence!).
Tom Lawlor jumps onto commentary and Rich Bocchini reads him the riot act of treachery.
The bell rings and the crowd is just going bonkers for the Von Erich boy.
The two lock up and the two grapple one another to the ground and on the outside. Neither refuses to release and it even rolls back into the ring (still locked up!) The two finally break and MJF is frustrated.
MJF goes for a hand shake as Marshall goes the good sport route, but MJF does a gut kick. Marshall truns the tables with several arm drags. MJF goes to the outside and MVE attempts a knife-edge chop. He hits the steel post and MJF makes the most of the matter by shoving Marshal’s fingers between the turnbuckle tie! He then stomps on the hyper-extended fingers . The sold out crowd is clearly concerned.
All of MJF’s focus is dismantling the ability to deliver The Claw. He even drops a knee on top after grounding the youngest of the Von Erich brothers.
MJF doesn’t lose focus of Marshall’s hands and the crowd chants fuels Von Erich to dig deep and belly to belly MJF, breaking the hold. He comes in with a series of clothelines before somersault splashing MJF in the corner. Right after, Marshall smacks Max down with an elevated powerslam.
Despite the injured hand, Marshall still wants to go for The Claw, but MJF puts the official in his way. This allows Max to duck and MVE accidently hits the turnbuckle with his right hand. MJF locks in the fujiwa arm bar. The hold breaks and MJF flips off the crowd. Boot to MJF’s mush gives Marshall the chance to hit a picture perfect moonsault. Only a two count!
Post-match, Tom looks to slither in with a chair but Marshall catches his intent which leave Lawlor lingering on the outside. In comes The Dynasty, but Marshall is so fired up he clears the entire ring of them!
