Killer Kross recently spoke with Kevin Kellam for Wrestlezone ahead of his big match with ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor for Warrior Wrestling this weekend.
Kross says he’s trying to take advantage of opportunities by facing a big range of high profile opponents, and put over Lawlor as one of the most legitimate guys in the sport.
“Not to be redundant, but as I was saying before about legitimacy, it doesn’t get any more legit than Tom Lawlor. I’ve actually known him for years. Even before I was training pro wrestling or even being involved in it, we were training out of the same place, Syndicate Mixed Martial Arts Academy. Some of the best fighters in Las Vegas come out of that place. Tom’s an awesome guy, but when the bell rings, that guy that you know personally is going to be checking out and you’re dealing with an animal.”
While Kross is looking to make a name for himself now, he said he hopes to ultimately put himself on the same level as The Rock and Dave Bautista, who have been able to transcend wrestling and into a new media demographic. Kross says people might expect him to say other names, and he thinks he’ll have those matches in time, but his endgame is to be a household name like The Rock has been able to do.
“There’s quite a few, but the first one and I’ll mention, and it’s one that not many people are expecting, is definitely The Rock. I think that The Rock is a very unique figure in the industry. He’s not the first person that comes to mind for people, some people think Brock Lesnar or Seth Rollins. All those are matches that I’d love to have, and I do believe that I will get them eventually. But, I think there’s something very special about an individual who can leave this business and get into other streams of entertainment and do well there. Be successful and then come back, bringing a whole new demographic who don’t even watch wrestling with him. When somebody brings new eyes and new fans to the business, that helps all of us. Being in the ring with someone like that is key to becoming a household name, and that’s really the endgame. Dave Bautista, The Rock, Lesnar, that’s the level I’d like to be.”
