The NJPW G1 Climax certainly lived up to it’s name last night as not only did we find a tournament winner in Kota Ibushi, but KENTA has joined The Bullet Club as well. This wasn’t something long-time friend Katsuyori Shibata was an endorser of and the star even post-ring career state went on the attack much to Budokan’s delight until he was ambushed by KENTA’s new Bullet Club buddies.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, Shibata going on the offensive against KENTA was something unbeknownst to the talent backstage. Nobody besides select management was aware that Shibita, who has had brain surgery due to bleeding in the brain, would be pulling off wrestling moves in what was the shocking angle of the evening.
There is no word as to if this means Shibata will be returning to the squared circle for competition, but it undoubtedly furthers what should be one intriguing storyline for NJPW as KENTA sat on the chest of his fallen former friend and basked in the moment of his new evil alliance.
