Tony Khan On What We Can Expect From Format Of AEW’s TNT Show, Fight For The Fallen’s Feel Good Main Event

Tony Khan says last night’s Fight For The Fallen show is more in line with what fans can expect from All Elite Wrestling‘s television show on TNT in October.

Khan took part in a media scrum after last night’s show and was asked about the decision to put the Brotherhood versus Young Bucks tag team match as the main event. He said he can’t recall exactly who presented the idea of having that match go on last, but it was something that the collective group (himself, Cody, Kenny and The Bucks) agreed with doing. He said it was a feel good moment on a feel good show, and said last night’s format is something more symbolic of what the TNT show will be like when they debut in the Fall. Khan also noted that an announcement about some of the venues and dates they will run for the TV tapings will be announced sometime before All Out on August 31.

“We all bought into it right away. It was a great, perfect main event for this. It’s a feel good match on a show where—Chris [Jericho] got the heat on Hangman, and Hangman obviously got the comeback—but really a feel good show in a lot of ways. I don’t really think we crossed lines—or didn’t intend to at least—and still presented a really compelling show, which is the goal for TV. It was a pretty good run, it was different from ‘Fyter’, a very different show from ‘Fyter’, and a lot of people asked me specifically what you might see different from ‘Fyter’ with our TV show. I thought this show was probably more reminiscent of what you’ll see on TNT.”

Khan and Cody Rhodes had previously been asked about the more hardcore elements seen on AEW’s first two shows, including Dustin Rhodes getting busted open at Double Or Nothing, and the Joey Janela versus Jon Moxley unsanctioned match at Fyter Fest. After Double Or Nothing, Cody said AEW pay-per-view events could be a ‘step up’ from their TV show, with Khan telling media in the Fyter Fest post-scrum that we shouldn’t expect to see this kind of wrestling on cable. Khan would also note that the pay-per-views would have a different set of rules and the company “wouldn’t have advertised that kind of violence, we wouldn’t have offered that on TNT. 100% no.”
