Jim Ross Says Jon Moxley Is The ‘Biggest Get’ For AEW

Jon Moxley’s departure from the WWE in order to join All Elite Wrestling was a big move for the young wrestling company, but although they have the talent, they’ve yet to prove they have the staying power. Talking with SiriusXM’s Busted Open radio, Jim Ross explained how Moxley’s presence in the AEW locker room will help the company just as much as his wrestling will.

When asked how big it was for AEW to be able to lure away Moxley, Ross praised the move. “Well it’s the biggest get yet, for us,” he said. “Because of the timeliness of him coming fresh off of WWE television, I know he wasn’t always overwhelmed with his creative, but he got a lot of TV time, he has a lot of [name value], and more importantly he’s young, athletic, and passionate. He seemingly comes into work with a chip on his shoulder, he’s perpetual motion at TV, he’s full of energy.”

Ross went on to say that while the young wrestlers are very talented, they’re still extremely impressionable, so having Moxley will help. “They may have great reputations in the independent scene, they may have cult followings with a small smattering of fans here, there, and yon because of their work in the indies,” he said. “But they ain’t been to the big dance, yet. We’re gonna get them to the big dance in October when we go on TNT every week. Live television, prime time, every week, in October. So hopefully we can help continue to mold, mentor, coach ‘em up, be a good listener, give ‘em some love and positive attention and motivation, and by October, whoever sticks with the roster by then, is going to have a whole different perspective.” Ross went on to discuss the perils of working on live TV, and how it will help shape the wrestlers on the roster.
