Cody Rhodes was on the receiving end of the ‘chairshot heard around the world’ and the good news is he’s concussion free, but went home with 12 staples to close the wound.
The conclusion of tonight’s match with Darby Allin saw Cody get leveled with an unprotected chair shot by Shawn Spears, who appeared to take issue with Cody calling him ‘a good hand’ when they announced his signing. AEW’s Twitter account confirmed Cody was OK, saying he got staples to close the wound, but was luckily not showing any signs of a concussion.
During the post-show interviews with media, Tony Khan and The Young Bucks were asked about the chair strike, with Khan saying they called a doctor immediately, and the situation was unfortunate. Khan added that they took proper precaution in this case, but he’d address it more in detail in the future. The Bucks’ Nick Jackson said the chair was ‘gimmicked’, but something clearly went wrong because Cody ended up bloodied after the strike.
