Shawn Spears spoke with the media after his appearance at AEW’s Double Or Nothing event, where he entered the Casino Battle Royal. Spears talked about being a battle royal entrant instead of somewhere else on the card, saying Double Or Nothing was largely booked on paper by the time he was free of his non-compete clause, but it didn’t matter where he was on the show.
“I don’t know, that’s kind of above my paygrade. I was kind of a last-minute addition. Remember when I left, this show was pretty much pen to paper months and months ago. The card was pretty much already booked. To be honest, I don’t care where I’m at. It’s about being there, it’s about being a part of history. This is not going to happen again in my in-ring career, this hasn’t happened in my 20-plus years. It’s not going to happen again. History was made tonight and I hope everybody can take in that concept.”
The big surprise of the night ended up being the appearance of Jon Moxley, and Spears said it was good to see him with All Elite Wrestling. Spears said ‘this’ Moxley was the guy they had been waiting for and wondered who else might show up in AEW:
“I don’t know, I can’t speak for anyone else. It was good to see Jon. I haven’t seen him in a little while. You can kind of see, when he entered that ring, he was him. That’s the guy we’ve been waiting to see for a few years. In terms of anybody else, I’m pretty sure that there’s going to be a lot of people calling and knocking on the door. However, they’re very keen on building this from the inside. This is a family, Cody wasn’t lying. Coming here today, everybody treated me like I was one of their own, and that was awesome. Who knows who will show up next?”
