The IIconics On Getting Homesick, Women’s Title Win; Peyton Royce On Having Tye Dillinger’s Support

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, aka The IIconics, were this week’s guests on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia. The new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions spoke about how fresh their Women’s Tag Team Championship win was to them. The pair joked about not knowing how to hold the titles while asked to take a photo with then-SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos:

PR: “It was so funny, we had to ask The Usos, ‘How do we hold these?’ They wanted to take a picture with us and I’m kind of copying them because we didn’t know how to. They have so many, it’s like second nature to them, but we’re doing media last night and don’t know how to hold our titles.”

BK: “I’m looking at Peyton and she’s got it over her shoulder and I’m like ‘How did she get it like that?’ So I’m just holding it in front of my hand and she’s trying to switch shoulders and it gets caught up, so she just ends up holding it in front, like, we don’t know what we’re doing guys. We’re learning.”

Peyton spoke about the normal struggles of being on the road, saying it both usually hits them at the same time. “Another thing with the struggles, as well, I think a lot of our emotions are dictated by how homesick we are. That’s very heavy-handed on us,” Peyton said. “And we kind of get homesick at the same time, so it affects both of us and we kind of hit rock bottom.”

Billie Kay added to that, saying it’s tougher on them since their families are so far away in Australia, but they try to make it work as best as they can. “When homesick hits us, it hits us hard. And it gets bad and we can’t do anything about it.” Billie said, “We can’t fly our family here – and that’s hard. We just try to talk to them as much as possible and Skype when we can, but that does dictate how we’re feeling.”

Royce spoke about her relationship with her fiancée, former WWE star Tye Dillinger, and said he’s been very supportive of her career. She also spoke about why Dillinger asked for his release, saying he wants to be happy as a wrestler and made a change to do just that:

PR: “I can see how people would struggle with that, and I’m not saying that we didn’t, but he’s just the most supportive man to me. He was right outside of gorilla when we got backstage at WrestleMania. He was the one face I wanted to see was right there—so I do get really homesick but I do get to go home to my fiancee, and I’m lucky that I get to do that. I just know how supportive and loving he is.

He wants to wrestle. He loves wrestling and that’s what he wants to do. So he’s gonna make himself happy and he’s gonna do that. He used to ask me ‘Babe, what do you think?’ And I would just say, ‘I just want you to be happy, and whatever that is, you do that and I will support you. Because as long as you’re happy—I need you to be happy.’”

Billie Kay also spoke about her own personal life, saying she’s prepared to deal with a public lifestyle herself, but doesn’t want to bring her relationships into the spotlight:

“If you know me, you know I’m an extremely private person. I’m very protective of my loved ones, and I think that stems from, A) being bullied when I was younger, and B) my family has gone through a lot, so I like to be the shield that protects them from the world because it can be very nasty at sometimes. I signed up for this life. I’m fine being in the public eye and taking anything that people throw at me, but my loved ones didn’t, not saying that they have an issue with the public limelight or anything, but I would just prefer not to showcase that. Maybe one day, but I just take it day by day, and at the moment, I like being private.”
