Backstage, Mr. McMahon is watching the aftermath of the Cesaro/Miz match.
In Ring Segment: Mr. McMahon
Mr. McMahon says he will save his comments on what just happened to his son Shane for later. Mr. McMahon introduces the challenger for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble, AJ Styles. Next up is the NEW Daniel Bryan. Bryan circles the ring. Mr. McMahon says the point of this is to be face-to-face. Bryan says he isn’t falling for this trap. Styles is a psychopath. Bryan says a future with Styles as the champion would be the worst. Bryan can’t let Styles take the WWE title from him. Styles uses his power for money and fame. Bryan uses his power for the greater good. Styles wants to know if the greater good is Bryan coming out here and talking like a jackass. Bryan says the people want Styles because he makes them laugh and jump out of their seats. But Styles doesn’t make the WWE Universe think. Bryan isn’t the people’s champion. Bryan is the planet’s champion.
Styles calls Bryan fickle for claiming to be the planet’s champion but Bryan took a plane to get here tonight. Styles says he can see in Bryan’s eyes that Bryan is afraid. Styles should be afraid. Bryan tries to speak but Mr. McMahon says he is tired of this and demands that Bryan get in the ring. Bryan says, of course, Mr. McMahon doesn’t want to hear this because Mr. McMahon and the Baby Boomer generation do nothing but take and give nothing back. Bryan goes on a rant that would make the guy standing in front of your local liquor store ranting about the aliens proud. Mr. McMahon tells Bryan to get in the ring now. Styles says Bryan doesn’t have to get in the ring. Styles chases Bryan down and tosses him into the stairs. Styles tries to set up the Phoenomina Forearm but Bryan pulls Mr. McMahon in front of him as a shield. Styles puts on the breaks to avoid hitting Mr. McMahon. Bryan drops Styles with the running knee.
