Getting one over Goldberg – WrestleMania 33
Many might forget just how great of a moment this was for Brock Lesnar. If you weren’t familiar, when the two faced of at WrestleMania 20 in 2004, it was their final match for the WWE. With fans well aware of this, they did nothing but jeer them both, thus not giving them the opportunity to have the match that they could have had. Goldberg would defeat Lesnar.
Fast forward 12 years later. Goldberg was announced as a playable character and in an interview with ESPN teased unfinished business with Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman furthered the storyline and called Goldberg out, to which he responded and returned to an extremely warm welcome by the WWE Universe.
With Lesnar looking to get one back over his old rival, Goldberg would shock the world by beating Lesnar in just 1 minute and 26 seconds in their Survivor Series match. With Lesnar shocked, Goldberg would once again have his number at the Royal Rumble, eliminating him seconds after entering.
This would culminate at WrestleMania 33 where Goldberg, then the Universal Champion, defended the title against Brock Lesnar. Shattering fan expectations, the two had a fast-paced, intense five-minute bout and wouldn’t give fans a moment to breathe, as they cheered on and went wild.
Lesnar conquering Goldberg and going on to have the longest world title reign in over three decades is a moment simply unforgettable.
