#5.) Lex Luger shows up on Nitro
This was the first major happening in the Monday Night War was on the very first episode of Monday Nitro. It was September 1995 and the first show took place inside the Mall of America, Minneapolis. Towards the end, fans were shocked to find none other than Lex Luger. It created the feeling of “anything can happen” and that proved to be instrumental in the long run.
What shocked fans was that Luger was still very much a “WWE guy” at that point. For the prior 2+ years, Luger was featured as a top star, with Vince McMahon trying to push him as Hulk Hogan‘s successor (but ultimately failing). Luger had wrestled with WWF just one night prior and that turned out to be the end of his contract.
He was lured in by Eric Bischoff and WCW made the first strike in the war.
