We’ve seen incredible underdog storylines over the years in WWE. While all of them have a special place in our hearts, perhaps none has been or ever will be greater than Eddie Guerrero’s rise to the mountain top. Guerrero wasn’t just an ordinary underdog. He was a man who had been through personal hell and back.
The story wasn’t just that Brock Lesnar was the bigger, stronger man. It was that Guerrero was a man desperate for redemption. A man desperate to prove to his family that he wanted to support them. A man desperate to prove that he had overcome the demons of the past. It’s not normal for WWE to usually bring up such personal things, but it played a big role in the feud and the people getting behind Guerrero.
On the night of No Way Out, the tension was in the air as Eddie Guerrero was getting ragdolled by the then-WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. Thanks to interference from Goldberg and more chaos, Guerrero displayed the heart of a true Mexican Warrior. Everything felt so real because it was. He had the whole world behind him and he used that energy to his favor, dethroning Brock Lesnar to become WWE Champion.
It’s hard to remember any victory in WWE that felt sweeter than that one.
