Parallel to Batista and Undertaker’s face vs face feud in 2007 was John Cena vs Shawn Michaels. This one was the primary feud on Monday Night RAW and it was also the main event of WrestleMania 23. It was a big test for John Cena because he was just on his second year as the face of WWE.
His extensive championship reigns eventually saw him butt heads with Shawn Michaels, who had been a babyface for nearly two years at that point (he was only briefly a heel during his 2005 Hulk Hogan feud). Fans cheered for Shawn Michaels, but it was always clear who was going to walk out victorious. That didn’t stop them from having a great match on the show of shows and an even better match on RAW later on.
