Who knew such an iconic moment could also be equally comical? The Honky Tonk Man reigned supreme as a hated Intercontinental Champion for 454 days. Even by the standards of the Golden Era, that was a surprisingly long reign. He was set to face Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake at SummerSlam 1988, but Beefcake got injured and Honky Tonk Man threw an open challenge to anyone to challenge him to a title match.
Cue The Ultimate Warrior, who was less than a year into his debut at this point. He would shockingly squash Honky Tonk Man in a whopping 27-seconds, putting his Intercontinental title reign to a screeching halt. It was The Warrior’s first major moment in WWE, and Madison Square Garden erupted in joy.
