Eddie Guerrero came from a wrestling family, so naturally, it was in his DNA. However, Guerrero chose a more unconventional path, being the first luchador to ever voluntarily unmask himself. He decided that he needed to carve out his own path, and that’s exactly what he did.
He would spend seven years in his native country of Mexico before jumping ship to Japan, where he actually wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling and funnily enough, he would actually wear a mask here, being known as “Black Tiger”. He even won the prestigious Best Of Super Juniors tournament.
It was in 1995 when he came to the United States that his career would never be the same. After a brief run with ECW and then WCW, he would move to WWE where he would go beyond just being a Cruiserweight or “Super Junior”. Either way, he was a masterclass technician and all-rounder, and we celebrate his greatest matches.
