4. Batista vs. John Cena (WWE SummerSlam 2008)
This is my favorite match between these two largely due to the fact that this was them at the peak of their runs respectively. This was also one of the first current Superstar dream matches that I was ever privileged to see. The story for this match was simple. Both men’s careers had paralleled always on separate brands. In the June 2008 draft, Batista was finally drafted to Monday Night Raw and sure enough by the end of the summer at the biggest event of the summer, John Cena and Batista agreed to clash. With no title on the line, this match was simply about respect and determining who was the biggest star of that generation.
The match itself was very good by 2008 standards and it features one of the original instances of super babyface John Cena taking a clean loss. Unfortunately, on one of the Batista Bombs, John Cena suffered a neck injury. However, this wouldn’t be the end of the rivalry as we would pick up again in 2010 with John being the definitive babyface and eventually getting three straight victories over Dave Bautista.
