5) Abyss vs Sabu – Barbed Wire Massacre – TNA Turning Point 2005
There is no denying that Sabu is one of the most hardcore wrestlers of all time. The “homicidal, suicidal, genocidal” maniac has carved a path of destruction, mostly with his own body, over multiple decades, promotions, and feuds. What is more remarkable, however, is that by this point, perhaps more quietly, Abyss had left a path of hardcore destruction in the wake of his already decade-long career.
Already having proven himself as one of TNA’s top performers in his cage match with AJ Styles earlier in the year, this barbed wire match continued to put the monster and the promotion on the map. From the opening chair shots to the sheer brutality of the continued falls into barbed wire, this match delivered “hardcore” or “extreme” in a way that few North American PPV matches had ever done. Though Abyss came out on the losing end, it went a long way to helping forge his legacy in TNA and in no short measure contributed to his Hall of Fame induction at Bound For Glory ’18.
