Samoa Joe jumped Lesnar as he was being introduced as the champion. Joe would send Brock through one of the commentary tables at ringside with a massive Uranage. He battered Lesnar across the ring with punches and kicks. Brock would finally get his barrings around him and hit some German Suplexes, but Samoa Joe fought through them. He would hit a low blow, distracting the referee and putting the champion back down to his knees. Lesnar answered Joe’s strikes with knees of his own, fought out of the Coquina Clutch into a sidewalk slam. A third clutch locked in and Brock was able to fight out of that and hit a huge F5 to pick up the win.

The match was about 6 and a half minutes long, with the attack before the match putting this main event segment over 10 minutes. What I enjoyed about this was it was hard hitting and fast, gave Samoa Joe a huge spotlight and the man delivered. We knew that Joe was not going to win the title, but you felt it could happen. For the first time in almost a year, I felt that Brock Lesnar delivered a match that benefitted him and his opponent. It was great to see WWE book Samoa Joe as a destroyer, even though he would ultimately take the loss. I do not think this is the end of Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar and hope Joe gets an even bigger spotlight at SummerSlam.

Well done all around with these two beasts and WWE Great Balls of Fire showed us that WWE RAW does have a lot of depth and talent on the roster. From the women, the tag team and the two main events (No, not Slater vs. Hawkins), WWE RAW has a lot to build upon. I still am yelling for a multi-man Universal Championship match at SummerSlam. Let all four men shine in a match that can be booked for 20-25 minutes.
