Who Faces Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania?
A 10-man (because they dont have any more legit talent) battle royal took place to determine the Number One Contender to Bray Wyatt’s WWE Championship. First off, you only have 5-6 realistic guys that could main event WrestleMania, but then only 3-4 when you consider logical choices for storylines currently. Either way, the ending of the night came when Baron Corbin gets eliminated and then destroys Dean Ambrose, an eliminated Miz eliminates John Cena and AJ Styles lands at the same time (not really) as Luke Harper. Daniel Bryan announces a match between the two men for next week. The winner will go on to WrestleMania.
The ending did not look great, as it was obvious Styles fell a full second before Harper did. No camera angles showed the feet and legs, but you could see it based on their leveling of the upper body. I am not upset at the idea of a match next week, especially since the feud will still have four weeks to develop, but the angle and decision for both men to battle near the ring post seemed confusing to me.
Battle Royals work best when you have no clue who is going to win. It also works best when you don’t have guys like Kalisto, Apollo Crews, Mojo Rawley and others involved when they have NO SHOT at winning. Would it have been better as a Fatal Five Way match? Maybe some other type of contest to truly show “wrestling?” Next week, however, will feature an excellent match between AJ Styles and Luke Harper. Somehow, we need to know what AJ Styles is going to do at WrestleMania.
