2. Matt Hardy vs Edge (Unforgiven 2005)
This one was packed with emotions. Matt Hardy’s promo was cast so that this match was nothing but personal revenge:
“I gave Lita everything I am for six years and what did she do in return? She betrayed me, she cheated on me, she slept with my best friend. And you know what it got me? It got me fired from my dream job… working for the WWE. The only thing I care about is making sure that Edge doesn’t walk out of that steel cage tonight.”
This was all true, which made the story sizzling hot. To add injury to the insult, Edge destroyed Matt at SummerSlam, leaving him in a pool of blood.
Action was brutal and physical, with Edge taking the upper hand. When Matt bounced back, everyone was ecstatic, as it was the hero getting his revenge on a villain that deserved it. Lita showed up to break a pin, and Matt dropped her with a Twist of Fate; the audience cheered. Instead of climbing out, Matt hit with a Leg Drop for a definitive win.
It was a great Cage match and a great finale to a bitter feud, and Matt’s career reached its peak with this one.
