- Eddie Guerrero vs John Bradshaw Layfield, July 15, 2004
This one was personal. Texan insulted Eddie’s heritage, caused his mother to suffer a heart attack. The two wrestlers faced each other in a Steel Cage bout, and it was a full scale war. The match was violent, bloody and passionate. Latino Heat unleashed a nasty Frog Splash from the top of the cage. JBL later confessed that he was numb for almost a minute, saying to the referee that he didn’t feel well. It was clear that Texan was losing the war, but Kurt Angle interfered, dressed as luchador, and JBL’s title was saved.
The rest of the show was also electrifying, with Cena facing three wrestlers in a Three-on-One handicap match. Paul London pinned D’Von and Mysterio, and Spike Dudley defeated Chavo Guerrero and Jamie Noble.
