Styles vs. Jericho was very good – but maybe not so good that the marks should have chanted “This is awesome!” during the match-opening collar-and-elbow tie-up.

Memo to Jericho: Don’t say, “Come on kid!” to an opponent that’s 38. It’s only going to make people Google your age.

Every time the announcers said, “This is a very competitive match,” I figured Styles was going to lose.

Isn’t Styles kind of doing a Superman punch?

Good drama when Styles was in the “Walls of Jericho.”

It’s PEL-ay, not pay-lay. Pele is one the 2-3 most recognizable athletes in the history of the globe, and WWE mispronounces his name. So did TNA.

If the Styles Clash was banned, the announcers never would have mentioned the move’s name.

Back story: I did color on Styles’ first PPV match ever, the World Wrestling All-Stars “Revolution” event on Feb. 24, 2002 in Las Vegas. Yeah, I know, I was terrible. Styles was in the first match, a cruiserweight battle royal.

Before the show, I was going over what Styles called his moves, and he kept tacking his name onto everything. The shooting star press was the “shooting Styles press,” etc. And I said, “A.J., if the move’s the same, the name doesn’t change. But the Styles Clash – that’s yours. You can name it.” Styles agreed. At least to my face.

Good guy. Smart to the business and just smart, period. He should do well in WWE. We already know he’s going to get a legit chance.
